Why Opensource?

"Free software is a matter of freedom: people should be free to use software in all the ways that are socially useful. Software differs from material objects-such as chairs, sandwiches, and gasoline-in that it can be copied and changed much more easily. These possibilities make software as useful as it is; we believe software users should be able to make use of them." - Free Software Foundation www.fsf.org

CSITS can build systems using proprietary systems and software typically using Microsoft based solutions. Whilst these system will perform well we believe that greater performance and lower costs can be achieved using OpenSource software.

Here are a few more comments that well known IT professionals have said about OpenSource software:

"Free software means you control your computing. With non-free software, the software owners control it. They put in spy features, back doors, restrictions." - Richard Stallman 16th July 2003

"You do it for love, you do it because you have a strong personal pride in it." - Linus Torvalds speaking about his OpenSource Linux operating system.

"Linux will reach success because Windows is 'just not good enough'" - Linus Torvals - Comdex 1999

"640K ought to be good enough for anybody" - Bill Gates
